As with most Open Source Software (OSS) efforts, the impetus for
creating the OSDK was in response to personal needs that weren't
being met (don't go there). If the needs you have identified with
an OSS project are common to a large enough or motivated enough
group of people, the project will be successful. Obvious examples
are Linux, Apache (Web server, Xerces, etc..).
The following are the set of needs that we are trying to address
with the OSDK. We feel these issues exist for the typical developer
in larger, corporate environments and therefore much of the OSDK
is biased from that perspective.
- Difficult to filter through all the OSS and find what you need.
- No roadmap to understand where each OSS project fits within
the development process.
- No confidence that you have found all the OSS that addresses
your needs.
- No means to judge the quality of the OSS.
